It may have been while he was arresting a felon or simply driving to a call. In order to show respect, officers of the department and surrounding departments will wear a black ribbon around their badges. It is similar to flying a flag at half-staff. It is one ribbon, that as an officer, you never want to wear.
Over 15,000 law enforcement officers have died and left their families as a result of protecting ours. No call is “routine” and no “routine” call is the same. Around every corner is a potential hazard. At any time, an officer may have to take a human life to preserve others. The officers who have died during their duty, have left spouses, children, relatives, co-workers and friends behind. Families have been destroyed and spouses left to support themselves without any notice. Hopefully, your involvement with this program may save a life. The proceeds that are raised will assist departments to better equip and train their officers to protect themselves as well as the citizens.
Your help is extremely needed. The money raised will be used to buy items such as bulletproof vests, Redman© gear, training courses, and other items that are directly needed for the survival of our law enforcement officer.
After all, how many occupations require you to strap on a firearm (maybe 2), a chemical spray, a nightstick, handcuffs, and a bulletproof vest?
